The Up-to-Date Ancients

New Evidence Reinforces the Relevance of Long Lost Knowledge

Some mysteries continue to defy explanation. That doesn’t seem to translate into acceptance by the main stream media, but it makes for some very interesting films, like this issue’s offerings.

This DVD was a three-time award winner at the International UFO Congress EBE Awards for Best Documentary, Best Historical Documentary, and Peoples Choice Award. Scholars and researchers have discovered an extraordinary connection between rare, ancient, 6000-year-old Sumerian symbols from the mysterious Mayan Calendar and a group of amazing signs and symbols found among crop circle formations, believed to be extraterrestrial in origin, that are now appearing in the farmlands of the English countryside. What are these symbols collectively trying to say? Are we looking at a great symbolic message system, covering vast distances of historical time and space? With the aid of advanced code breaking technology and the hard work of brilliant researchers, are we now able to connect the dots of antiquity, further unlocking a detailed set of messages that foretell a great prophecy about the future of our planet and confirmation of humanity’s extraterrestrial origins? According to this production, yes, is the answer! (We know not all agree.) And the show begins with what it calls “proof positive” that the genuine crop circles have an “alien origin” (said to be extraterrestrial in this DVD, though there are those who prefer to say interdimensional).

During the night of July 6 and 7 of 2007, researcher Winston Keech placed a series of cameras on the hill above the East Field near Silbury Hill, an area in the south of England which has always been popular for the crop circle phenomenon. Other researchers joined Mr. Keech—Gary King, a lawyer, who is very much into this phenomenon, along with his girlfriend witnessed this phenomenon. As he tells the story, around 1:30, they were there when Winston set up his cameras which had infrared and invisible light capabilities and light sensitivity, and the researchers viewed a scan of the field in the image enhancer at l:35 a.m. They could clearly see that there were no formations at that time. Watching and waiting they finally saw something just after 3:00 a.m.—a big, white flash of light that completely encompassed the landscape. After approximately 20 more minutes, just as some light began to creep in as some clouds moved away, there was an almost imperceptible shadow. Looking through the viewfinder, they could then see that a significant formation was now present in East Field. They continued to wait and take more pictures until daylight, then Gary and his girlfriend drove down to the field where Winston then filmed the scene as the couple entered the formation just after 4:30 a.m.

Two cameras had been running constantly all night long from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (16 hours in all) completely covering the field, so that, had there been any light in the field, they would have been detected. Some circles in the newly created formation followed the uneven terrain and were deformed in order to appear perfectly round from above, further evidence of the inexplicable nature of crop circles. “Nobody could have been doing this formation,” said King, “If there had been 1/200 of a candlelight in that field, these cameras would have picked it up. Plus, we would have seen it from the hill because we were constantly watching. Quite apart from the logistical aspect of making a formation like this is the complexity and the size.”

On later analysis of the footage, the team found that the cameras had caught that beam of light which they had observed from the hill and found that the first visible signs of the formations were at 3:20 a.m.; and that the light flash that was picked up registered for three-and-a-half milliseconds as an electromagnetic pulse, which is similar to a bolt of lightening. It was seven minutes after that that the first signs of the formations were picked up, though they didn’t see them until 20 minutes after that. “As far as I know,” states King, “this is the only time that anything like this, where continuous footage, continuous tapes, have been running all night capturing the whole field, eliminating any possibility of anybody being out there with any laser alignment measurement devices or lights of any kind…this is the best footage, the most comprehensible footage, available.” They trust that what happened all in one night in East Field on July 7, 2007, is bound to be remembered as one of the most significant events since the beginning of the phenomenon in the 70’s.

The remainder of the DVD will possibly hold you enthralled with their crop circle messages related to the ancient past. There are excellent graphics depicting the correlations, and there’s a bonus film, as well: Mystery of the Crop Circles.

Christopher Dunn

Here he goes again! More stunning analysis of the monuments of Egypt—providing never-before-seen evidence, Dunn’s research shows that while absent from the archaeological record, highly refined tools and even megamachines must have been used in ancient Egypt. In this DVD filmed at the 2009 Kempton Ancient Science Conference, Dunn presents a stunning stone-by-stone analysis of key Egyptian monuments, including the statue of Ramses II at Luxor and the fallen crowns that lay at its feet. His modern-day engineering expertise provides a unique view into the sophisticated technology used to create these famous monuments in prehistoric times. Using computer-aided design software and metrology instruments, he exposes the extreme precision of these monuments and the type of advanced manufacturing expertise necessary to produce them. His examination of the mysterious underground tunnels of the Serapeum illuminates the finest examples of precision engineering on the planet.

To list just one example, according to Dunn, “The Ramses challenge was issued in ancient Egypt again and again, from Memphis and Cairo to Luxor and Abu Simbel. Exact replicas of Ramses’ image were crafted in limestone, sandstone, quartzite, granite, and diorite….Some pieces weigh more than 1,000 tons….The statues are massive–a significant challenge to move and, because they are intricately carved, an even more significant challenge to sculpt. What distinguishes the Ramses statues is the iconic imagery of the perfect face. It seems that no matter which of the Ramses statues we look at, the same smiling face gazes through you, into infinity.”

In order to accomplish this effect, Dunn explains, the ancient sculptors worked to a uniform system of measurement and a design scheme. Just as today we replicate designs using uniform measures and consistent methods of manufacturing, in ancient Egypt there was a system of design, measurement, and manufacture used to create the Ramses statues. We can then ask the question: What was the fundamental scheme that the ancient Egyptians used to create and re-create this iconic image in stone?

In 1986 Dunn visited Memphis, near Saqqara, and gazed down at the statue of Ramses in the open-air museum. Looking down the length of the statue, it struck him as peculiar that the left and right nostrils were identical mirror images of each other. It is common knowledge that no adult walking the earth has nostrils that are identically shaped. He thought it was noteworthy, but did not follow up and research it further as his focus at the time was on engineering, not art. He was there to study the pyramids and had not planned to visit any temples during his visit. He didn’t realize at the time, though, how important his observation would become to his future research.

And in his book and this DVD, Dunn follows up in depth. Even though we’ve reviewed previous DVDs of Dunn’s analysis of the Egyptian pyramids, as well as the ruins in South America, make no mistake—this is new material. Actually, it’s based on his latest book, Lost Technologies Of Ancient Egypt: Advanced Engineering in the Temples of the Pharaohs (2010), which is well illustrated with much of the same material, but there are a few things in the DVD you won’t want to miss that aren’t in the book—and, of course, his charming presentation will be a delight to all Dunn fans.

John Iovine

This new DVD by Images Scientific Instruments, Inc., explores and explains the world of Kirlian photography. Producer John Iovine says that he has been shooting Kirlian photographs as well as writing books and articles on the technique for 20 years. “The experience I gathered in that time I distilled into the tutorial portion of the DVD, which explains how to shoot Kirlian photographs.” Images SI Inc. has been manufacturing Kirlian photography devices and accessories for over 10 years. Edmund Scientific is their largest distributor in the United States.

Kirlian photography is a high voltage, contact print photography. The process is simple. Sheet film is placed on top of a metal plate, called the discharge or film plate. The object to be photographed is placed on top of the film. If the object is inanimate, such as a coin or leaf, an earth ground is connected to the object. High voltage is applied to the plate momentarily to make an exposure. The corona discharge between the object and discharge plate passes through and is recorded on the film. When the film is developed, you have a Kirlian photograph of the object. The Kirlian process doesn’t require the use of a camera or lens.

Kirlian photography is named after Semyon Davidovich Kirlian and his wife Valentina who began their work with high voltage photography in 1939. Kirlian collaborated with his wife for over 30 years developing equipment and studying electro-photography. The Kirlian’s work was first made known to the general public in this country by a book published in 1970 by Shelia Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder titled, Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain. The Kirlians’ work became so well known that the field of high voltage electro-photography is called Kirlian Photography. However, Kirlian wasn’t the first to study electro-photography. The field of electro-photography can be traced back to the late 1700’s. At that time, Georg Christoph Lictenberg noted pictures made in dust created by static electricity and electric sparks. Nikola Tesla (1880) photographed many corona discharges using his famous Tesla Coil. In the early 1900’s, Russian researcher Yakov Narkevich-Todka exhibited electro photographs he had made. A little later, Dr. F. F. Strong of Tufts University Medical School used a Tesla Coil to make electro-photographs of his hand.

Iovine states on his website: “There are numerous Kirlian devices being sold on the internet today. To sell their devices, the corona discharge in the resulting Kirlian photograph is claimed to be paranormal or to hold information that can be decrypted by the company’s Kirlian researchers. All my research to date shows the corona discharge can be explained by employing known physical laws, like changes in a subject’s skin resistance due to factors such as stress, lying, illness, fatigue, alcohol consumption, etc., without the necessity of invoking paranormal (bio-plasma) factors. Some other variable factors influencing the resulting Kirlian picture include the object’s pressure against the film, humidity, air pressure, voltage, frequency, and exposure time. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, I would be more than happy to examine that data. We have never made any ‘paranormal’ claims to sell our Kirlian photography devices. Our devices are sold to make brilliant Kirlian photographs. If one wants to do paranormal research with our devices, that’s fine; just know we make no claim that any interpretation of the corona discharge is due to anything other than standard, variable physical parameters as already stated. If you discover something different, please let us know. We are open to examine any new evidence or data that comes along.

The one observed phenomenon, and the most amazing claim (in Iovine’s opinion) is known as the ‘phantom leaf’ experiment. Here a small portion of a leaf is cut off; the leaf is then photographed using Kirlian photography. In a small percentage of cases, the cut portion of the leaf appears in the photograph as a ghostly apparition. The appearance of the cut portion of the leaf, the Soviet researchers claimed, is proof of an ethereal, bio-plasma body. [Researchers at Drexel University, however, have claimed that they were unable to reproduce the effect when the glass used to capture the original leaf was replaced with new glass before the freshly cut leaf was photographed, leading them to conclude that the ‘cut leaf’ phenomenon was caused by microscopic etching in the surface of the glass which occurred during preparing the images of the uncut leaf.] Although a few Kirlian researchers have claimed to duplicate the phantom leaf experiment in their own labs, the most reported successful results are from Soviet researchers. The exact experimental parameters (voltage, frequency, etc.) needed to obtain this phantom leaf effect are either not available or didn’t work for Iovine.

Skeptics of the paranormal have long disputed the claims made concerning auras and Kirlian photography; this DVD might be more to their liking than it will be to fans of the paranormal interpretation.

This is a short film of moderate quality, but the price is right!
