When the mainstream press ignores and attempts to debunk much of the important research reported in this magazine, it is easy to lose sight of the experience and qualifications of the paradigm-challenging scientists which makes them such a threat to the academic establishment. Some DVDs, though, will remind you.
Stephen C. Meyer, Ph.D.
Here’s another exciting DVD from Randolph Productions. We’ve already reviewed the previous: Unlocking the Mystery of Life; Privileged Planet; and Darwin’s Dilemma. This production is based on Stephen C. Meyer’s book SIGNATURE IN THE CELL: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design (2009). The foundations of scientific materialism are in the process of crumbling. Philosopher of Science Stephen C. Meyer shows how the digital code in DNA points powerfully to a designing intelligence behind the origin of life. Unlike previous arguments for intelligent design, DNA by Design presents a radical and comprehensive new case, revealing evidence not merely of individual features of biological complexity but rather of a fundamental constituent of the universe—INFORMATION. That evidence has been mounting exponentially in recent years, known to scientists in specialized fields but largely hidden from public view. Dr. Meyer is the first to bring the relevant data together into a powerful demonstration of the intelligence that stands outside nature and directs the path life has taken.
The critical response that followed the publication of Meyer’s book was fascinating, but the fact is that few—if any—of the critics really grappled with the crux of Meyer’s argument or with the substance of intelligent design theory. This is remarkable and telling. The rejoinders were sharp, horrified, and often grossly uninformed about what Dr. Meyer was actually arguing. Some could not bear to even open his book before savaging it. A follow-up book was released in 2010—SIGNATURE OF CONTROVERSY: Reponses to Critics of Signature in the Cell. Defenders of intelligent design analyze the hostile responses using the critics’ own writings.
Stephen C. Meyer is director of the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture (CSC) and a founder both of the intelligent design movement and of the CSC, intelligent design’s primary intellectual and scientific headquarters. A Cambridge University-trained Philosopher of Science, Meyer is the author of peer-reviewed publications in technical, scientific, philosophical, and other books and journals. While other scientists and writers on the general subject of intelligent design have debunked Darwinian theory by focusing on discrete aspects of life’s history and complexity (as covered in the above-mentioned, previously reviewed DVDs)—the Cambrian explosion, gaps in the fossil record, irreducibly complex features like the bacterial flagellum or the mechanism of blood clotting, and the like—Meyer’s research goes to the very source of the mystery of life: its origin and, more specifically, the origin of biological information as represented in DNA. He presents a radical and comprehensive new case, revealing the evidence not merely of individual features of biological complexity but of a fundamental constituent of the universe, namely—information. Meyer has argued that the intelligent design field is still in its infancy and that vital evidence of a designer’s ‘signature’ on life only emerged as recently as 10-15 years ago. His work in biological information represents the cutting edge of the argument for design. He has departed from some in the intelligent design field by seeking to directly and openly ‘surface’ and confront the philosophical and spiritual implications both of design theory and of Darwinism.
Prior to the publication of Signature in the Cell, the piece of writing for which Meyer was best known was an August 2004 review essay in the Smithsonian Institution-affiliated, peer-reviewed biology journal Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington. The article laid out the evidential case for intelligent design that certain features of living organisms—such as the miniature machines and complex circuits within cells—are better explained by an unspecified designing intelligence than by an undirected natural process like random mutation and natural selection.
Because the article was the first peer-reviewed publication in a technical journal arguing for intelligent design, the journal’s editor, evolutionary biologist Richard Sternberg, was punished by his Smithsonian supervisors for allowing Meyer’s pro-ID case into print. This led to an investigation of top Smithsonian personnel by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, widely covered in the media, including the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post. The federal investigation concluded that Sternberg had been wrongly disciplined and intimidated. The case led to widespread public indignation at the pressures placed on Darwin-doubting scientists not only at the Smithsonian but at universities around the U.S. and elsewhere. He has been widely featured in media appearances on ABC, BBC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC, and PBS. In 2008 he appeared with Ben Stein in the DVD Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed and is also featured prominently in two other science documentaries, Icons of Evolution and Unlocking The Mystery of Life.
So, here he is on his own DVD, to present his fascinating information on the fundamental constituent of the universe—INFORMATION. Basically, this is an excellent production, which includes PDF notes and MP3 files.

Renee Scheltema is a Dutch documentary filmmaker and photographer. After her degree in Criminology, she went to the University of California in Berkeley, School of Journalism. Her main subjects were TV-Journalism and Photo-Journalism. For 25 years Renee has worked for Dutch television as a director, producer, and camera-person. As a photographer, Renee has been working for magazines and newspapers in Holland, the U.S., and South Africa. When a few curious psychic events happened around her all at once, she decided to set out to the U.S. and meet with the top scientists, parapsychologists, psychologists, and doctors who are doing research in this field. She found that today’s experiments reveal how science is verifying numerous kinds of connections demonstrating that psychic abilities are part of our inherent nature and that psychological research demonstrates the existence of five major psychic abilities, called “The Big 5”: Precognition—an alleged psychic ability to predict the future. It sometimes comes as a vision, a mental flash, or a dream; Telepathy—mind-reading or mind-to-mind communication; Clairvoyance—the ability to perceive remote places, objects, or people (a scientific term for clairvoyance is ‘Remote Viewing’); Psychokinesis—or ‘PK’—the ability to move objects with the power of the mind only; and Healing—spiritual practice that may afford relief from pain or sickness and sometimes brings about ‘miracle cures.’
Scheltema filmed, produced, and edited this journey virtually on her own. No crew accompanied her; so in this documentary, we get an intimate portrait of the frontier scientists, interwoven with anecdotes from celebrities within the field. Among these are:
Charles Tart, author and Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of California, teaches at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto. He has been involved with research and theory in the fields of Hypnosis, Psychology, Transpersonal Psychology, Parapsychology, Consciousness and Mindfulness since 1963. He has authored over a dozen books (including End of Materialism); he has had more than 250 articles published in professional journals and books, including lead articles in such prestigious scientific journals as Science and Nature; and provides regular public speaking appearances.
Dean Radin is an author and a senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in California. His first career as a concert violinist shifted into science after he earned a degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in Psychology. For over two decades he has been engaged in consciousness research. Before joining the research staff at IONS in 2001, he held appointments at Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, University of Nevada, and several Silicon Valley think-tanks, where he worked on a classified program investigating psychic phenomena for the U.S. Government. He has appeared in many TV programs and has written for newspapers and contributed to a variety of magazines, and published several books, including The Conscious Universe and Entangled Minds. He has presented over a hundred invited lectures at universities including Cambridge, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Virginia Tech, and University of California at Davis, at industrial facilities including Google headquarters, and for U.S. Government organizations including DARPA and the U.S. Navy.
Rupert Sheldrake is an author and a British biologist and philosopher who—during the last thirty years—has individually produced the most research in telepathy. He is best known for his theory of morphic fields and morphic resonance, which leads to a vision of a living, developing universe with its own inherent memory. He first worked in developmental biology at Cambridge University and is currently Director of the Perrott-Warrick project. He has appeared in many TV programs and has written for newspapers and contributed to a variety of magazines, and published several books, including The Sense of Being Stared At; Dogs Who Know When Their Owners are Coming Home; and A New Science of Life.
Hal Putoff is a physicist at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Austin Texas. He was the Director of the Stanford Research Institute during ‘Stargate’ the CIA’s Remote Viewing Program in the 70’s and 80’s.
Gary Schwartz is an author and Professor of Psychology at the University of Arizona and Director of the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health. He has published hundreds of scientific papers and is the author of several books including The G.O.D. Experiments and his latest (published in January 2011), The Sacred Promise: How Science is Discovering Spirit’s Collaboration with Us in Our Daily Lives. Schwartz is highly experienced in speaking publicly about health psychology, energy healing, and spiritual research; and he has been interviewed on major network television shows and hundreds of radio shows.
Edgar Mitchell was the sixth man to walk on the moon; and since an epiphany on board the Apollo 14 in space, he has dedicated his life to looking for answers of what happened to him. He has received many awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. After retiring from the Navy in 1972, Mitchell founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences to sponsor research into the nature of consciousness as it relates to cosmology and causality. He is author of The Way of the Explorer (Third edition, 2006) as well as dozens of articles in both professional and popular periodicals.
Also featured, among others, are: Eric Pearl, an internationally recognized healer, who has appeared on television programs around the world. As a doctor, Eric ran a highly successful chiropractic practice for 12 years until one day his patients began reporting that he had miraculous healing powers; Catherine Yunt is a psychic medium, precognitive dreamer, medical intuitive, and energy healing practitioner whose abilities have been tested at the University of Arizona by Prof. Gary Schwartz; David Dosa, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Brown University (while working as a geriatrician in a nursing home in Providence, he discovered that Oscar the cat had the uncanny ability to predict when his patients were about to die); and Nancy Myer, author and psychic consultant (she is now appearing on Court TV’s Psychic Detectives and Japan’s FBI Psychics).
This artistic production with stunning visuals has won several, much deserved, awards as this thoughtful and unbiased film about the mysteries and nonlocal manifestations of consciousness presents compelling evidence about the meaning and implications of these findings for humanity. When one questions: What is moving me and my world? Who is behind it all? Dare one say, G-o-d? At least one comes away with more of an awareness of a connection.

Gary A. David
This DVD of Gary David at the Sedona 2009 Ancient Mysteries Conference explores the sky-ground relationship in the American Southwest and its astounding global significance and explores the location of pueblos in the American Southwest, circa AD 1100, that appear to be a mirror image of the major stars of the Orion constellation. David presents diagrams, maps, sky charts, and photos of ruins and rock art and essentially decodes many of the ancient mysteries of the Pueblo Indian world. He is careful to point out that what the Hopi regard as a true depiction of their past (influenced also by the Navajo who migrated there around AD 1500-1600) is generally at odds with what white anthropologists have surmised. Having analyzed geodetic alignments of Pueblo ruins, photographed rock art, noted cultural motifs, and utilized an astronomical computer program to determine ancient star positions, David has come up with his take on the fundamental principles and purposes of the Orion constellation as manifested in the American Southwest.
David is an independent researcher and author who has been intrigued by the American Southwest since his initial trip there in 1987. The following year he lived for about six months in northern New Mexico, where he studied archaeological ruins and rock art. In 1994 he moved to Arizona and began an intensive study of the ancestral Pueblo people (sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Anasazi) and their descendants, the Hopi.
In 2006 after more than a decade of fieldwork and scholarly inquiry, his nonfiction book The Orion Zone: Ancient Star Cites of the American Southwest (upon which this DVD is based) was published. The sequel, released in early 2008, is Eye of the Phoenix: Mysterious Visions and Secrets of the American Southwest. In autumn of 2010, the third book in the series The Kivas of Heaven: Ancient Hopi Starlore was published. His articles or interviews have appeared in several publications, including Atlantis Rising.
He has clearly declared in his writings, “I am a wasichu, but I am not a “fat-taker”—the literal meaning of the Lakota (Sioux) word for white person. I am also a pahana, the Hopi term for a person of Caucasian descent. But, he ads, “I am not a member of the Wannabe tribe (white folks who want to be Indians). I am not in any way, shape, or fashion a spokesperson for the Hopi nor any other tribe, nor am I qualified to be such. The observations and opinions expressed in this book are strictly my own; they do not reflect the policies (either official or non-official), attitudes, cultural orientations, philosophies, cosmologies, or religious beliefs of any particular native group….My goal in doing this research is not financial gain. Although a few of my articles have appeared in national publications and my books…are generally available, I can honestly say that the remuneration has been minimal—certainly not enough to survive on.”
Though just an average production at a conference, from this lecture/slide presentation you can enjoy a fast-paced, visual look at such topics as: The Sky Over the Hopi Villages; Orion Rising in the Dark Crystal; The Cosmo-Magical Cities of the Anasazi; Windows Onto the Cosmos; They Came from Across the Ocean–The Patki (Water) Clan and the Snake Clan of the Hopi; Ancient and Mysterious Monuments; Beyond That Fiery Day; and much more!
